How To Whitelist an Email: Full Guide For 2024

Thank you for subscribing to Honest Burst.

Many e-mail and Internet companies are now using programs to block unwanted e-mail, often called spam. Sometimes, however, these programs block e-mail you want to get.

To Ensure You Are Receiving Your HonestBurst Emails Do The Following:
Be sure to add the corresponding HonestBurst email addresses to your email white list to ensure the best chance of receiving our content and updates

A whitelist is a list of accepted items or ersons in a set… a list of e-mail addresses or domain names from which an -email blocking program will allow messages to be received.

Why is this important?

Unsolicited, unwanted advertising e-mail, commonly known as “spam”, has become a big problem. It’s reached such proportions that most e-mail services and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have put some sort of blocking or filtering system in place or begun relying on self-proclaimed blacklists to tell the good guys from the bad.
Honest Burst applauds their intention to protect you from spam, but everyone agrees that the current systems for stopping spam are far from a perfect solution. They often block e-mail that you’ve requested, but that fits somebody’s idea of what spam looks like. The more responsible anti-spam activists are working hard to cut down on these “false positives”, but in the mean time, you might unexpectedly find you’re not getting your subscription’s content…
As it happens, there’s something you can do to keep your subscription’s content from falling into the false positive trap. You can fight the blacklists with a “white-list”.

Of course, every e-mail system is different. Below are instructions for some of the more popular ones. If yours isn’t here, please contact your ISP’s customer service folks for their instructions. (Forward the answer to us, and we might add it!) If you’re using some sort of spam filtering or blocking software yourself (in addition to what your ISP provides), we’ve also listed instructions on how to exempt your subscription from some of the more popular of those programs.

How To Whitelist an Email in Gmail

  2. Click the Settings gear icon in the top-right corner, then select See all settings.

    Gmail Settings

  3. Navigate to the tab labeled Filters and Blocked Addresses to access information about your existing filters, and select Create a new filter.

Using Gmail’s filter settings, you can also star these emails, apply a chosen label, mark them as important, or perform other actions.

Whitelisting in Gmail mobile app

The Gmail mobile app does not have an option to create advanced filters, but it offers the possibility to whitelist senders in your spam folders:
  1. Open the Gmail app.

  2. Navigate to Spam or Junk folder.

  3. Click on the message you wish to view.

  4. Select the option Report not spam. You will now receive messages from this sender as normal.

  2. Select the gear icon in the top right corner to access Settings.

  3. On the left sidebar, click on Mail, then navigate to Junk email.

How to Whitelist an Email in Yahoo Mail

If you want to move a sender or domain name to the Yahoo Mail whitelist, the process is even simpler than with other service providers mentioned above. If you have already received at least one message from the address and it ended up in the Spam folder, open the message and mark it as Not Spam.

Yahoo No Spam

Once you have marked the email as not spam in Yahoo, the Yahoo spam filter will automatically allow future messages from the same address into your inbox.

However, if the person you’re attempting to whitelist hasn’t yet sent you a message, you’ll need to go through the following steps to whitelist the address:

  1. Navigate to Settings icon, then click More Settings from the Yahoo Mail Menu.

    Yahoo Settings

  2. Select Filters and hit Add new filters to enter information about the domain name or sender.

  3. From here, you can enter any string of text you want to whitelist in future emails. This could be anything from an email address or domain name to something you expect to be in the body of the message.

How to Whitelist an Email Address in AOL

Many people looking for AOL whitelisting instructions are confused by the fact that there’s no traditional email whitelist. Instead, it considers all mail addresses users have in their address books to be trustworthy. This means that the contract list in AOL essentially serves the same purpose as the Gmail and Outlook whitelists.

Here are step-by-step instructions for whitelisting an email address in AOL:

  1. Log in to your AOL account.
  2. Open Contacts from the left navigation pane.
  3. Click the New Contact icon and enter the required information.

If you want to block the deleted contact, you need to go to Settings → Security and privacy → Blocked addresses. There, you can add the contact to your email blacklist or even choose to clock all senders except contacts.
